Welcome to the Enfield Food Shelf

From its humble beginning, hundreds of volunteers have contributed to the Enfield Food Shelf, Inc.'s effort to provide food to the families in need.  The Enfield Food Shelf is a non-profit volunteer organization affiliated with the Enfield Conference of Christian Churches and dedicated to" assuring that no Enfield resident goes hungry because of a lack of resources." The Food Shelf’s priority is to serve Enfield families and individuals needing food.

Volunteers are the backbone of our operation.  Every week, many individuals commit themselves to performing the many tasks necessary in order for our food bank to meet its mission.  Our volunteers are retirees, elementary and high school students, employees of businesses, college interns, and individuals from every "walk of life."  All are dedicated to helping others. These volunteers help unload food deliveries and donations, weigh and record the information, check and sort foods, stock the shelves, breakdown the cardboard, clean, assist during the family choice shopping, register and check-in families, escort first time families, explain additional services available, and supervise the check-out area.  Their cheerful enthusiasm, faithful assistance, sensitivity, and congeniality assure that our families receive the food assistance they need in a respectful and dignified manner.  We and our families are very fortunate to have this group of volunteers.  Their dedication and commitment to assisting families in need is a model for everyone.

DEBBIE MATUSKO

Upon retirement, Debbie wanted to volunteer in order to contribute to her community.  Debbie came to us and assists with the accepting and sorting of donated food items each week.  Debbie feels "a worthwhile sense of fulfillment because I see how we are helping people in need."

TOM ARCOUETTE

With his winning smile and welcoming manner, Tom volunteers in the distribution area and assists families as they shop.  Tom says, "Seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing their great appreciation makes my day worthwhile and reminds me about how fragile life is."
